What to bring

  • 1.Passport — valid for at least 6 months from date of entry
  • 2.Passport photo — one recent photo (some counters have photo machines)
  • 3.Visa fee in cash — USD recommended, EUR/GBP also accepted at some counters
  • 4.Arrival card — available at the airport, fill before joining the visa queue

Practical tips

Visa extension: You can extend your stay at the Department of Immigration in Thimphu if needed through your host or tour operator.

Entry points: Entry is primarily through Paro International Airport or land crossings at Phuntsholing, Gelephu, and Samdrup Jongkhar.

Children under 10: Free tourist visa (must still apply).

Trekking permits: A visa does not include trekking permits. Route and national-park permits are arranged by your licensed Bhutanese tour operator and are separate from the visa fee and SDF.
