About this place

Bumthang is considered Bhutan's spiritual core, home to some of the country's oldest temples and most important pilgrimage sites. The four valleys — Chokhor, Tang, Ura, and Chumey — spread across a high plateau with buckwheat fields, apple orchards, and forest. Jambay Lhakhang and Kurjey Lhakhang are among the oldest temples in Bhutan, both tied to visits by Guru Rinpoche in the 8th century. The region also produces Bhutan's only locally brewed beer and apple brandy, and the annual Jambay Lhakhang Drup festival draws visitors from across the country.
